Heading home
We left Hawaii late last night and arrived in Vancouver at about 7:30am. Here are a few shots from the plane - sometimes flights go over our house, so I was hoping we might go that way.

Our Last Day
We spent our last day in Hawaii at one of our favourite spots, which also happens to be rated one of the best beaches in the world: Kailua Beach.

On the way back to Hawaii Kai, we had a great view of these gorgeous mountains and had to take a few shots.

Traditions
Our annual breakfast tradition after the Molokai Race - the buffet at Duke's at the Outrigger Waikiki Hotel. Yasu and Dani joined us - they were both really nice and fun to hang out with.

This life size Tahitian dancer had a motion detector and would swing her hips whenever someone walked by.

Holly practising her hip movement since she's missing her dance class!
Another tradition - hanging out at Waikiki Beach after breakfast!

Molokai Hoe
Waiting for Daddy at the race finish. Holly loves this beach and especially running in and out of the waves!

Lots of spectators watching to see who will win the race!

The helicopter follows the race leaders, so we know that they are approaching!

The winners (AGAIN) - Shell Va'a from Tahiti. It was their 4th win in a row! They came in at 4:38:50, just 15 seconds slower than their 2008 winning time, which was a record for the fastest crossing. We'll have to see if they can make it 5 in a row in 2011. The Tahitians in general have really made huge strides in outrigger racing in the past 5 years - this year the top 4 crews were all from Tahiti!

Our day in Hawaii
Holly and I found a quiet spot in Hawaii Kai to spend a few hours. This is Kuliouou Beach Park - I just looked on our map and drove to what appeared to be the closest beach.
We walked across the water (only one part was slightly deep so I had to carry Holly) to the little "island" you can see.

View from the "island" - Hawaii Kai is in the background.

The valley and mountains look amazing from here!

Something Holly wrote for me in the sand!

Back to Oahu
Holly and I headed back to Oahu today. We'll see Daddy on Sunday at the end of the big race!

On the flight, someone was a little tired (but a lot brown and tanned) . . .
. . . but still willing to pose for pictures!

Honolulu and Waikiki, here we come!

After landing, we stopped at the Aloha Hula Supply store to buy a few things for our dance classes. We were pretty hungry, so we went to the Aloha Tower Marketplace for a bite to eat.
Outside a chocolate store, we discovered a hula bear!

And scattered throughout the mall, some statues of girls and women doing some hula dancing.

Lunch and Paddling
We went for a late lunch at the Kona Brewing Company. Holly took a picture next to the little surfing canoe . . .

. . . and then insisted that Daddy stand there so she could take HIS picture!

We then headed to a marina near the airport to meet the crew for a paddle. Holly and I found this pretty, little beach to hang out at while we waited.

My favourite flower in Hawaii - the plumeria. It also smells amazing!

We found a boat at the marina with Holly's name on it. She thought it was the greatest thing!
