Mauna Kea

We decided to drive back to Kona via Route 200, or "Saddle Road". I tried to research the road, but couldn't find anything on the internet regarding its name. I believe it's called Saddle Road because it goes up between the 2 large volcanoes, Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea, and then comes back down as it crosses the island - hence sitting like a "saddle" between the two mountains.

We were going to drive farther up Mauna Kea, but when we got there and went to the Visitor Information Station, we found out that it is not advisable to take small children to the summit because of the risk of altitude sickness. It's also not good for people with respiratory problems, so it might have affected my asthma.

We then decided to leave the car and hike up one of the small hills we saw close by.

Holly and Daddy reach the top!

A little girl sitting on the top of the world!

Queen (or Princess) of the World?!

Holly had fun exploring the top of the hill.

We even figured out a way to use the timer to get a family shot!

Someone is pretending they live in a castle . . .

Looking down at the road that leads back to Route 200.

In the centre of this picure, and slightly to the left, you will see a dark, mass. It's a clump of green trees growing in the middle of what appears to be arid land!

A true princess has to hold up her dress so it won't get dirty!
